Vernon Obituary: Salvatore Bazzano, 86

Condolences to his family and friends.

Salvatore A. Bazzano, 86, of Rocky Hill and Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Hartford, Vernon and South Windsor, devoted and loving husband of Virginia (Stannard) Bazzano for 62 years, died peacefully, Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Hartford Hospital.

He was born January 12, 1932 in Hartford and was the son of the late Salvatore and Mary (Granato) Bazzano. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Salvatore, along with his dad and brothers, owned and operated the former Bazzano’s Market on Albany Avenue in Hartford. He later was employed by Arnold Bakers. He enjoyed traveling, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Stephen Bazzano and wife Claire of Tolland, Raymond Bazzano and Maria Tscholl of Jamestown, Rhode Island and Gary Bazzano and wife Susan of Hartford, formerly of South Windsor; eight adored grandchildren, John, Stephen, Christopher, Danielle, Marissa, Michael, Christian and Casey Bazzano; brother-in-law, Burt Sanzo of Omaha, NE; cousins, Peter and Frances Lund and Lucy Murkette, as well as many nieces and nephews and many dear and cherished friends. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Carmelo and Vincenzo Bazzano and two very dear and best friends, Peter Barry and Jack Bordieri.

A very special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Hartford Hospital for the love, care and compassion shown to Salvatore and his family.

Calling hours will be Thursday (January 18) from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday (January 19) at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. The burial with military honors will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Salvatore’s memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215 or to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
