Vernon Officer Avoids Head-On Crash Chases Down DUI Suspect
A Vernon cop escaped a head-on crash then chased down the suspect, a report indicates.

VERNON, CT — After nearly being hit head-on, a Vernon office was able to make a U-turn and track down a suspected drunken driver, a report indicates.
At 12:53 a.m. last Friday, an officer was traveling north on Prospect Street when he saw a white, Toyota Corolla coming right at him, according to a report.
The officer swerved to avoid being hit head-on and then turned around, according to a report. He caught up the car after it had taken a left turn onto East Main Street and the a right onto Grove Street, according to a report.

According to a report, the driver, identified as 37-year-old Karen Gomez, of East Hartford, showed blood alcohol levels of .166 and .168 in breath tests, over the legal limit of .08.
She was charged with driving under the influence, a lane violation, a signal violation and making am improper turn and is due in court on May 7, police said.
