Vernon Patch Letter: Unionized Educator Praises Winkler

VERNON, CT — To the Editor:

As a proud unionized educator married to a unionized educator and with two children who have gone through Vernon's Blue Ribbon schools, and then became educators, I can’t say enough about how Mike Winkler has gone to bat for education. You will not find a more vociferous supporter of schools and the teachers whom we trust our children to. Mike has also supported the arts. I greatly appreciate how Mike keeps his constituents up to date via email regarding laws and events at the capital.

I don’t recall any representative being as accessible.

Lastly, I want to say how quickly he gets things done. For example, I emailed him on a Friday night regarding the lack of COVID testing at a local nursing home overburdened with many cases in late March. He got the DPH involved immediately, and they began testing at that home that next Monday. Now that’s public service and, with Mike, you’ll always get it with a smile.
