Vernon Police Investigating Reports Of Shots Fired In Rockville
A heavy police presence was at the intersection of Ward and Prospect streets in Vernon Thursday afternoon.

VERNON, CT — A heavy police presence was at the intersection of Ward and Prospect streets in Vernon Thursday afternoon after a report of shots being fired. Police seemed to have recovered a discarded weapon at the scene.
The incident took place just before 1 p.m. The intersection is in the Rockville section of town.
Several detectives and uniformed officers were at the scene investigating. Investigators retrieved what appeared to be a pistol at the scene. A Vernon police spokesman did confirm it was a gun.

One person described by police as "an adult male" was injured at the scene but it was not related to a gunshot, the spokesman said. The man refused treatment, police said.
Due to the close proximity of the investigation to Maple Street School, the staff was asked to remain in the building for a brief period. There were no students in the building.
