VERNON, CT — Scammers have been calling local businesses impersonating Vernon police, according to a warning issued Thursday.

Vernon Police Department spokesman Lt. William Meier said that officers were notified Thursday by several local businesses that a man had called impersonating a member of the Vernon Police Department.

Police said the caller demanded money and threatened the business person with an arrest warrant.

Meier said, "These calls are scams and the caller is not a member of the Vernon police. We are reminding people that a police officer will not call and demand money or payment to avoid arrest. If you receive a similar call, simply hang up. The Vernon Police Department is investigating these calls."
