The vehicle was stopped diagonally across the road, blocking both lanes and running, police said. An approaching officer must have startled the man, because the car suddenly went into reverse and crashed into an embankment, according to an arrest report.

The man, Dedrick Edwin Herndon, 35, of Watervliet, NY, refused to take a standardized field sobriety test, but was arrested for driving under the influence because of his actions, police said.
