VERNON, CT — Vernon police Monday released more details about how a dog was shot and killed last week.
The incident took place on property off Bolton Road and was reported Thursday, police said. The shooting occurred two days earlier and went unreported until the dog was discovered by its owners, police said.
It appeared the dog had wandered into another resident's yard, police said. A man was legally hunting on his property at about dusk and, according to testimony, saw what he thought was a coyote stalking a deer, police said. According to testimony, the man said he shot the animal before knowing it was a dog, police said.
