VERNON, CT — Vernon police were out in force Thursday in search of a 54-year-old resident who went missing earlier in the day.

A Silver Alert was issued Thursday morning for Ionel Simbutin. Police were in the area of South Street and in the central part of town looking for him. He was last seen at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 275 South Street in Vernon, police said while adding Simbutin's family is concerned for his welfare.

The search was complicated by internet service being down in the area and many home surveillance cameras were not sending images, police said.
