Vernon Police Warning Residents About Utility Scam Calls
Police have sent out a warning to Vernon residents after a local business received a phone call claiming to be from a utility.

VERNON, CT — Police have sent out a warning to Vernon residents after a local business received a phone call claiming to be from Eversource Energy.
Police saaid the caller said the business was going to have its power shut off due to non-payment.
The caller ID read "Eversource" and the call back number had a recording similar to an Eversource recording.

Police are advising residents and business owners to "use caution" when receiving similar calls and to not give out payment information over the phone unless initiating the call.
Always call the phone number listed on the monthly bill, police said.

Anyone receiving a call that seems like a scam should simply hang up, police said.
