Vernon Police: Man Charged For Leaving Toddler Alone in a Car

The incident was at a local shopping center, police said.

VERNON, CT — A Vernon man is facing a criminal charge for allegedly leaving a toddler in a car at a local shopping plaza.

At 8:40 a.m. on Sunday, Vernon police responded to the Tri-City Plaza shopping center at 35 Talcottville Road for a welfare check on a child that had been spotted alone in a 1997 Toyota Avalon, according to an arrest report.

The child was between 2 and 3, police estimated.

Police then charged Francis Moran, 29, of West Street, Vernon, with leaving a child younger than 12 unsupervised in a public place, according to an arrest report.

He was released on a $500 bond and is due in Rockville Superior Court on Sept. 6, police said.
