Vernon Police: Wrong-Way Drunken Driver Heads into Neighborhood
Report: Officer had to lay on the cruiser's horn to get his attention.

VERNON, CT — A Coventry resident is accused of driving up a steep one-way section of a residential street right in front of a police officer while drunk, an arrest report indicates.
According an arrest report, an officer was parked at the intersection of North Park Street and Prospect Street at 8:25 p.m. on Aug. 6.
The officer saw a car drive past his cruiser and up the one-way section of Prospect Street into a condensed area, according to an arrest report. The officers intercepted him at the corner of Prospect and Mountain streets, but after having his lights on for "several seconds," he had to blow the horn of the cruiser to get the driver's attention, according to an arrest report.

The driver was identified by police as Lukasz Kowalski, 29, of Coventry. The officer said in a report that the car smelled of alcohol and that he failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests.
Kowalski was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and driving the wrong way, police said.

He is due for a second court appearance on Aug. 31, according to judicial system records. He has posted a $1,000 bond, court records indicate.
