Vernon-Rockville Places Third in State 9/10 Softball Finals

TRUMBULL, CT — In Game 3 of the 9/10 State Softball Championship, Seymour defeated Vernon-Rockville 2 - 1 on Friday night.
With the loss, Vernon-Rockville was eliminated from the four-team tournament and placed third.

Real paced Vernon-Rockville's offense with two hits, two stolen bases and scored Vernon-Rockville's lone run in the first inning on a passed ball.
Vernon-Rockville had six hits with two of the hits (Brianna Roy and Lila Ward - second hit of the game) coming in the final at bat in the sixth inning as the team battled to the last out of the game. Morgan Geisinger (catcher), Lila Ward (Second base) and Caitlin Chatterton (First base) made excellent defensive plays for Vernon-Rockville.

Madelynn Orosz was the winning pitcher for Seymour and she stuck out seven. Sara Prodan and Chloe Garguilo scored Seymour's runs.
The loss dropped Vernon-Rockville to 1 -2 in the State Championship Round and eliminated the team from play with a 10 - 3 overall record.
Seymour now plays Westport (2 - 0) and must win on successive days (Saturday andSunday) to win the state championship due to the double elimination format of the tournament.
