Vernon-Rockvlle Picks Up 2 Softball Wins

The local are moving along in pool play.

VERNON, CT — On Saturday in District 8 Softball action in the 10-12 division, Vernon-Rockville defeated Somers, 9-1.

Hailey Williams pitched a complete game for Vernon-Rockville and struck out out five.

Hannah Lake and Rebecca Opdenbrouw had two hits a piece and Amanda Margelony and Mikayla Leskey contributed key hits. Hailey Williams cleared the bases with a triple in the five-run fourth inning for Vernon-Rockville.

Bianca Green, Devon Dalessio and Kiana Kalman played solid games for Somers.

Vernon-Rockville moved to 3-1 in Pool Play with games scheduled against Windsor and Ellington this week to conclude Pool Play.

In Round 3, Vernon-Rockville defeated Windsor Locks 9-8 in an exciting game, highlighted by excellent plays from both teams, that was decided in the final inning.

Trailing 7-6 going into the final inning, Mikayla Leskey and Madison Pitkin had RBI singles in the top of the sixth inning as Vernon-Rockville scored three runs to take the lead.

Maggie Dwire tripled in the first inning for Vernon-Rockville and scored twice in the game along with Hailey Williams.

Iliana Johnson made an excellent catch in Center Field in the fourth inning and the infield made several nice defensive plays throughout the game.

Hannah Lake and Caitlin Chatterton combined to pitch a solid game for Vernon-Rockville.

For Windsor Locks, Angelina Jones had three hits, two stolen bases and scored three runs and Sammi Corrado had two hits.
