Vernon School Board Names Interim Superintendent
The Vernon Board of Education approved a retired Bolton superintendent for the interim role effective July 6.

The Vernon Board of Education on Monday approved Mark Winzler, of Manchester, as Vernon's interim superintendent of schools.
The move is effective July 6, the last official day for outgoing superintendent Joseph Macary, who is headed to Middletown.
The appointment puts an experienced interim school leader in charge during a transition period for the district. According to the announcement, Winzler retired as superintendent of schools in Bolton, and has since served in 12 interim superintendencies across the state.

The district said those interim assignments were in Granby (twice), Suffield, Torrington, East Hampton. (twice), Hebron, Plymouth, Columbia, Rocky Hill, Watertown and Berlin. The announcement also said Winzler has experience in human resources, curriculum and instruction, and secondary principalships.
According to the district, Winzler earned both a Sixth Year Degree in Educational Administration and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Hartford. He also received a bachelor’s degree in German from Upsala College in New Jersey.

The announcement further said Winzler served as a search consultant for NESDEC, the New England School Development Council, conducting superintendent placements. That background adds experience in school leadership searches as Vernon changes superintendents this summer.
The district’s message asked the community to welcome Winzler as he steps into the superintendent’s office. It also thanked residents for their continued support during what the announcement described as a transitional period.
