Vernon School Officials Outline Summer Capital Projects

Vernon school officials have announced three summer capital projects.

VERNON, CT — Three major capital improvement projects are on tap for the summer in Vernon, Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary said.

Here is an overview:

  • Roof work will be completed at Vernon Center Middle School. Three years ago, a section of the school roof, primarily over the gym, was resurfaced. This summer, the area over the classrooms will be resurfaced at a cost of $1.9 million, Macary said.
  • At Rockville High School, an in-house project — with a concentration on the "yellow hallway" — will shift furnishings and some departments around to, in Macary's words, "rearrange things for the students." The idea is to create a more efficient flow inside the building, he said.
  • At Maple Street School, 5 classrooms will be refurbished and the hardwoood flooring will be reconditioned, Macary said. Most of the work will be performed in-house, he said.
