Vernon Stabbings: Ward Street Suspect, Bellevue Victim Worsens
Vernon police on Thursday gave updates on a pair of stabbing incidents.
VERNON, CT — Police on Thursday morning said they have identified a suspect in a stabbing at Ward and Union streets the night before. Police also said the victim in a stabbing on Bellevue Avenue last week has taken a turn for the worse.
A man was stabbed in the chest in the Rockville section of Vernon on Wednesday night, police said.
Shortly after 6 p.m., Vernon police went to the intersection of Union Street and Ward Street for a reported stabbing.
Responding officers found an "adult male" who had been stabbed in the chest, a department spokesman said.

Officers transported the man the short distance to Rockville General Hospital in a police cruiser, where he underwent emergency surgery to treat the wound, a department spokesman said. Police described the wound as "significant," but added it is not believed to be life-threatening.
Detectives were at the scene for some time investigating and, as of late Wednesday night, no arrests had been made.

Police do not believe it was a random act and believe the people involved knew each other. They said Thursday morning a suspect has been identified. No arrest had been made as of Thursday morning.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who has any information to contact detectives at 860-872-9126. Callers may remain anonymous.
The Bellevue Avenue incident took place on Aug. 20. Police said the victim was critical, improved slightly, but was back to critical on Thursday.
Whitney Baldwin, 32, of Terrace Drive in Vernon surrendered to state police at the Troop K barracks two days later and was brought back to Vernon police headquarters, police said.
According to a report, Baldwin was in an argument with another woman on the street in the area of 3 Bellevue Ave. shortly before 10 a.m. The argument escalated and it seems the woman was stabbed in the thigh by Baldwin with a folding knife, according to a report.
Baldwin has been charged with first-degree assault and tampering with evidence.
