Vernon Stores Caught Selling Tobacco to a Minor
Authorities conducted a tobacco compliance check in Vernon on Tuesday.

VERNON, CT — Four Vernon businesses and their clerks were cited for selling tobacco to a minor during a compliance check staged Tuesday by Vernon police and state authorities.
The operation took place in conjunction with the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program. A "supervised minor" traveled with authorities to 23 establishments and tried to purchase tobacco products.
Police said those caught in the operation were:

- Total Express, 24 West St.
- Union Grocery Store, 78 East Main St.
- Duscount Tobacco and Vape, 30 Lafayette St.
- Mobil Mart, 1292 Hartford Turnpike
Police said those that were "compliant" were:
- 7-Eleven, 180 Union St.
- Walgreens, 188 Union St.
- Rockville Corner Market, 20 East Main St.
- NY Deli Mart, 60 School; St.
- Krauser's, 73 East St.
- XtraMart, 1302 Hartford Turnpike
- CV Mart, 1237 Hartford Turnpike
- Dollar General, 1188 Hartford Turnpike
- Wine Seller, 1189 Hartford Turnpike
- 7-Eleven, 903 Hartford Turnpike
The clerks were given fines of $200 for first-time offenses, police said.
