Vernon Students Whisked Inside After Teacher Hears Loud Noise
Vernon police said the school incident followed protocol.

VERNON, CT — A mysterious loud noise prompted a teacher at Vernon's Northeast School to bring in a group of children from recess on Thursday. A police spokesman called the incident "complete precaution."
The incident took place at 12:30 p.m. when children at the elementary school were at recess, police said. A teacher heard a loud noise, brought the children inside and called police, per protocol, police said.
When even a perceived threat is in the area, teachers are instructed to do just that, Vernon police spokesman Lt. William Meier said.

Police went to the scene and found nothing unusual, Meier said.

The incident comes on the heels of a Vernon resident with a history of mental health issuesbeing arrested for making a vague threat against school buildings.
When asked if residents were on edge, Meier said some are certainly "anxious."
Meier said police have been in contact with school administrators daily.
"The safety and security of our school staff and students is one of our highest priorities and we have been collaborating closely with school officials to ensure their safety," he said. He added the teacher "did the right thing."
