Vernon SWAT Arrest Leads To Murder Charge In NC: Police
An April 2 SWAT arrest in Vernon has led to a murder charge in North Carolina, police said.

VERNON, CT — A fugitive picked up in a Vernon SWAT team incident last week has been charged with murder in North Carolina, police said.
Vernon police spokesman Lt. William Meier said Thursday evening that he could not comment further and that local authorities were working with authorities in North Carolina on the case.
Wardell Sherill, 22, of Charlotte, NC, was one of two men arrested on Dow Street in Vernon on April 2, police said. He was charged on an extradition warrant and is currently being held in Connecticut on a $400,000 bond with a May 1 court date, according to judicial system records.

Charlotte police told several media outlets, including WCCB, that Sherill has been charged on a warrant with the the murder of a 37-year-old man in the northwest part of the city last month.
Sherill will be served with the warrant in Connecticut and extradited to North Carolina at a later date, authorities said.

He and Carlos Jimenez, 22, of 27 Dow St., Vernon, both surrendered peacefully after police surrounded the home last week. Jiminez was also wanted in North Carolina, police said. He is also being held on a $400,000 bond with a May 1 court date, according to judicial system records.
