Vernon Veterans Day 2019: Middle East War Memorials, A New Wall
A pair of ceremonies marked Veterans Day 2019 in Vernon.
VERNON, CT — Two ceremonies highlighted Veterans Day 2019 in Vernon — one marking the addition of Middle East conflicts to the memorial garden in Central Park and another a Veteran's personal creativity atop Henry Park.
A ceremony took place in front of town hall featuring two honor guards and the playing of Taps. It dedicated the Iraq and Afghanistan monuments, which were added to the memorials as part of a refurbishing.
A cermony also took place at Henry Park to commemorate the work of local Vietnam vet Edward King, who took stones from a recent project to install a state-of-the-art communications tower used for the local public safety complexes and built a wall adjacent to the famed Fox Hill tower memorial.

King placed 13 flags atop the wall to commemorate the original 13 colonies and "our first veterans."
He plans to have the flags in place for Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
