Vernon's Cornerstone Foundation Offering Free Back To School Store

VERNON, CT — The Cornerstone Foundation's is again offering back-to-school clothing and supplies for those who might not be able to afford it.

Cornerstone's annual back to school event is set to open on Aug. 11th. Cornerstone is inviting residents of its "the tri-town area" (Vernon, Tolland and Ellington) to sign up for the event.

  • Aug. 11 from 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Aug. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. 1 p.m.

The back to school store is located at at 1C Prospect Street in Vernon. The Back to School event allows children to pick out a free backpack, school supplies, clothing and sneakers. Children must be present with adults.

The Cornerstone is a faith based non-profit organization located in Vernon's Rockville section. It was started in 1982 by Helen Syriac, a local resident and parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Vernon. Since then, Cornerstone has grown to include three shelters, a community kitchen, a clothing bank, a food pantry and a community center.
