VERNON, CT — Ramarys Ortiz could think of no better name for her new barbershop in Vernon. After all, she made the shift to cutting men's hair exclusively when working at a salon in South Windsor and brought the specialty with her to the 534 Talcottville Road location.

Welcome to the Man Cave Barber Shop. It's brighter than a actual cave, but the lighting is subtle. It has a pool table, an old Coke machine and eventually a motorcycle will be on the wall.

"And it's a a real motorcycle," Ortiz said with a grin. "The pool table was a nice touch to the room, I think."

Ortiz, 23, admittedly made a bold move by going on her own, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. But after salon rules were loosened by state authorities, she decided to go for it and found what she termed a perfect space in the plaza owner by Vernon Poolman.

She officially opened last week.

Ortiz said she made the transition to men's haircuts exclusively several months ago and built a following at the South Windsor salon. She called opening the business in Vernon a "better opportunity."

The Man Cave even offers hot towel straight razor shaves.
