On Wednesday evening, 22 volunteers helped to make Vernon a nicer place to live.
The volunteers started on West Main Street and picked up trash and removed graffiti from buildings and street signs in the area.
In addition, they removed 14 old mattresses that were thrown in a vacant lot off of West Main Street, and a couch that was in the Amerbelle parking lot.

For the last few weeks, Ken Kaplan, a local business owner, has been meeting with the volunteers to figure out a plan of attack for how to clean up the area.
The group will be meeting every Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. throughout the summer and is always looking for volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, contact Kaplan through his New England Motorcycle Museum Facebook page.
