Water Main Break Buckles Part Of Tunnel Road In Vernon
Crews were busy trying to put Tunnel Road in Vernon back together after a Monday night water main break.

VERNON, CT — Crews were busy trying to put a section of Tunnel Road in Vernon back together Tuesday morning after an overnight water main break.
Connecticut Water Company spokesman Daniel Meaney said crews were hoping to have the repairs finished by Tuesday afternoon.
The break took place near the intersection of Willow Stream Drive. The road was lined with crews up the hill to the Risley Road intersection throughout the morning hours.

The break not only caused Tunnel Road to buckle, but also toppled the street sign that warns drivers about an upcoming "S" turn.
The break occurred precariously close to the first day of school Vernon, which is scheduled for Aug. 31. Lake Street School is a short distance away.

Complicating things were Frontier crews, which were performing work on wires near the break area.
Meaney said the break on Tunnel Road is part of the same water system as South Frontage Road, on which a rupture took place last month.
It is Connecticut Water's largest system, which essentially encompasses the area between Suffield and Mansfield east to west, and Enfield to Vernon north to south, Meaney said.
