Loose cows were running along a stretch of highway in north central Connecticut Friday.

VERNON, CT — A couple of runaway cows wreaked havoc along a stretch of Interstate 84 in Vernon Friday afternoon.
The incident took place at about 2 p.m.
The cows were first spotted on the westbound side of the highway near Exit 66, which caused traffic to slow down as they meandered along the shoulder. Authorities said the cows broke loose from a cattle carrier.

The cows started making their way east, still on the westbound side of I-84, toward exits 67 and 68 and state police had to shut down the road briefly as the cows were moving in-and-out of the woods then darting toward traffic, authorities said.
They were lassoed, but one of the cows broke loose and again began running on the highway, authorities said.
