VERNON, CT — State police said "a medical emergency" caused a 69-year-old Willington man to crash into a light pole and highway sign while exiting Interstate 84 last weekend.

A report on the Oct. 7 incident was released this week.

According to a crash report, the man was headed east on I-84 at 1:59 p.m. in a 2016 GMC Sierra. As the man entered the off ramp at Exit 65, a medical emergency caused him to veer off the pavement and onto the right shoulder, according to a crash report.

The vehicle then slammed into a Department of Transportation light pole and highway sign, according to a crash report.

The man was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center with an undisclosed condition, a report indicates.
