Woman Eats Vial of Coke During Booking in Vernon: Report

A woman found waling along a stretch of highway in Vernon wound up with drug charges, police said.

VERNON, CT — A Vernon woman found walking along a stretch of highway began eating her drug stash when authorities took her into custody, police said.

At 11:52 p.m. on Monday, a Vernon officer met state police at an Interstate-84 interchange to pick up a 59-year-old woman, identified as Jan Marie Coska, of Vernon, who was found walking on the side of the highway, according to an arrest report. A warrant had been issued for her arrest, police said.

She was taken to the Vernon Police Department booking room and, as police were about to search her, she swallowed a plastic vial later determined to contain powder cocaine, according to a report. She had two other vials on her as well, according to a report.

Coska was charged with possession of a controlled substance, interfering with police and tampering with evidence, according to a report. She was released on a $5,000 bond and is due in court on Aug. 28, according to a report.
