Woman Found Dead Inside Apartment In Vernon

VERNON, CT — A 22-year-old Vernon resident was found dead in her apartment in the Rockville section of town Monday and police are questioning a person of interest in the case.

After receiving calls requesting a welfare check on the woman, Vernon police went to an apartment inside the Ledgecrest complex at 79 Brooklyn St. at 12:07 p.m., only to find her dead.

The woman's death was determined to be suspicious and Vernon detectives and the state police Central District Major Crime Squad were called to the scene to investigate, VPD spokesman Lt. Robert Marra said.

A person of interest was pinpointed and investigators have been questioning him, Marra said. The woman lived in the apartment, he added.

No one else was injured, Marra said.
