Woman Leaves Kid In Car To Steal From Vernon Store: Police

VERNON, CT — A known shoplifter was caught not only stealing from a store in Vernon, but abandoning a child to do so, police said.

According to an arrest report, on Wednesday of last week, an officer on patrol at the Tri-City plaza noticed a vehicle known to be involved in area shoplifting instances enter the parking lot.

The officer then saw the driver enter the ShopRite store and later exit the "entrance only" door of the supermarket, according to an arrest report. When questioned, the 30-year-old woman admitted not only shoplifting, but leaving a child unattended in the car while doing so, according to an arrest report.

She was arrested and charged with leaving a child younger than 12 unsupervised in a vehicle in a public place and sixth-degree larceny.

She posted a $10,000 bond and us expected in court on April 30.
