Woman Breaks Window of Car With Kids in It in Road Rage: Cops

The incident was on New Year's Eve.

VERNON, CT — A 22-year-old from the Rockville section of Vernon was arrested after she smashed a windows of a car occupied by a a pair of small children at a busy Vernon intersection in an apparent road rage incident, state police said.

The incident took place at 6:02 p.m. on New Year's Eve, according to an arrest report.

State police were alerted to a possible road rage situation involving two cars that had passed into Vernon from Manchester on Interstate-84 and were stopped at a light at the Exit 64-65 off ramp, according to an arrest report.

That's when a passenger in one vehicle, identified as Omairys Romero-Hernandez, of 22 Ward St., Vernon, exited on vehicle and began pounding on the windows of the other vehicle, which contained a woman and two young children, according to an arrest report.

The front driver's side window was broken, state police said in an arrest report.

While still on the highway, both vehicles were traveling in the left lane with the vehicle carrying Romero-Hernandez behind the other vehicle, state police said.

State police said the incident was triggered when the other vehicle slowed suddenly for stopped traffic. The vehicle carrying Romero-Hernandez then passed the other vehicle in the left shoulder causing the driver to move to the center lane and eventually cut it off, state police said.

No injuries were reported, but Romero-Hernandez was charged with risk of injury to a child, third-degree criminal mischief and breach of peace, according to an arrest report.

She is due on court on Jan. 17, according to an arrest report.
