VERNON, CT — The second part of work on the 300 block of Route 83 has begun and, when all is finished, a renovated car wash and a car care center with a familiar name will be open for business under one banner.

Late last week, ground was broken for a new Valvoline car care center. Permits were secured some time ago for the project that will take over a long vacant parcel of land next to the former Mr. Sparkle and now-Valvoline car wash at 373 Talcottville Road, the local address for that section of Route 83.

A week ago, work on the car wash commenced.

Valvoline some time ago purchased the Mr. Sparkle car washes and the Route 83 location has been targeted for a new look to go along with one of its car care centers, Vernon Development Director Shaun Gately said.

Customers for the time being are being directed to the Route 30 Mr. Sparkle location in Tolland while renovations are under way in Vernon.

Part of the purchase included a Mr. Sparkle on the fringes of the Rockville section of Vernon, further up Route 83, across from CVS. A for sale sign has been posted on the fencing at the front of the property. The car wash has been closed for months.
