World War II Vet Has A Happy Veterans Day — And Birthday — At VCMS
A World War II veteran was a special honoree at Vernon Center Middle School Monday.

VERNON, CT — Vernon Center Middle School gave a World War II veteran a 100th birthday to remember Monday.
Vernon Schools are open on Veterans Day and the lives of those who served are a big part of the curriculum. There are special programs at every school in town and on Monday morning Robert Garabedian was one of 85 veterans to be invited to the school.
He was also turning 100.

Garabedian is a World War II veteran who trailed fighter pilots who eventually went into battle. His favorite fighters were the P-40 and P-47.
The school’s nearly 700 students sang "Happy Birthday" to him, and he responded with a smile and salute.

Mr. Garabedian was escorted by his great grandson, VCMS student Declan Yarucewicz.
After the ceremony, VCMS teacher Regina Lee presented Garabedian with a cake to celebrate his 100th birthday.
