VERNON, CT — Talk about on-the-job training ... a state trooper trainee had a hand in a sizable drug bust while on Interstate 84 this week.

At 11:27 a.m. Monday, a trooper trainee from the 137th Training Troop and a field training officer were conducting a patrol on I-84, state police said. They observed a white Honda Accord with a New Jersey Registration, with a tinted windshield and passenger side window tints well below the legal limit and a traffic stop was initiated on the eastbound side of the highway in the area of Exit 67 in Vernon, state police said.

During the course of the traffic stop, both occupants were "displaying signs of criminal activity taking place" and a search of the vehicle was conducted, state police said. A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 1 kilogram of suspected cocaine and fentanyl along with a large sum of U.S. currency.
