2 Sought In Purse-Snatching Attempt In Wallingford: Police
The victim got her purse back after an attempted robbery in broad daylight in the Stop & Shop parking lot in Wallingford, police said.
WALLINGFORD, CT — Police are looking for two men in connection with the attempted purse-snatching of a woman in the Stop & Shop parking lot Saturday afternoon in Wallingford.
Police responded just after 1 p.m. to Stop & Shop at 930 North Colony Rd. on the report of an attempted purse-snatching. The victim told police that while she was putting groceries into her vehicle, a silver four-door BMW stopped about one car length past her, according to Officer Alex Torres.
Torres said the BMW was occupied by a male driver and passenger. There was no description available for the driver. The passenger was described as a black man in his early 20s, about 6-feet tall and skinny, who was wearing gray shorts, a black jacket and a blue durag, according to Torres.

The passenger got out of the vehicle and snatched the victim’s purse that was in her shopping cart, according to Torres.
“He then ran back to the BMW and while reentering, the victim caught up, reached into the vehicle and grabbed her purse,” Torres wrote in a news release. “A struggle ensued as the driver began to drive and the victim held on to her purse, dragging her and causing minor injuries in the process.

“After the vehicle traveled a short distance, it stopped. The passenger pushed the victim away from the vehicle and she managed to retrieve her purse. The victim then ran and hid between other vehicles as she observed the BMW circle the lot eventually exiting towards North Main Street.”
Torres said the suspect vehicle was identified as a silver 2014 BMW X6 bearing CT Registration: AH38573. It weas reported stolen out of North Haven about an hour and a half before the incident, according to Torres.
“The suspects remain at large,” Torres said. “The Wallingford Police Department urges citizens to use caution when shopping at local stores and getting gas.”
