Then, at about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police received a report of a carjacking in the area of 179 South Turnpike Road. Officers converged on the area and met with the victim who wasn’t injured, according to Jaques.
The victim told police that she was working for Uber at the time and had picked up a man in a different town who was wearing a black N95 face mask, and all black clothing, according to Jaques.
The suspect showed a gun, ordered the victim out of the car, and then stole the car fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed, according to Jaques. The car stolen in this case was a gray 2018 Nissan Rogue with Connecticut registration AV56647.
Jaques said the department is using Wallingford police officers assigned to both the FBI Safe Streets and New Haven Shooting Task Forces to further investigate the carjackings.
Jaques also said Wallingford police are urging residents who work for Uber to use “caution when conducting pickups of potential customers.”
Police are asking anyone who sees the stolen cars, or has any other information, to call the department immediately at 203-294-2800.
