allnex Donates $1500 to CT STEM Fair and Volunteers to Judge

allnex recently encouraged the Connecticut STEM Foundation's 17th annual STEM Fair by donating $1500 and volunteering to judge.

From Martin B + Company: allnex recently supported the Connecticut STEM Foundation’s 17th annual STEM Fair by donating $1500 and volunteering to judge. STEM Fair exhibitors presented more than two hundred completed projects and research proposals in four scientific disciplines: physical sciences, behavioral sciences, health sciences and environmental sciences.

“Each year I look forward to judging amazing projects from talented students,” Frank DiCristina, site manager at allnex, said. “Interestingly, this year I judged a project that had direct applicability to how allnex is working to improve its environmental footprint and further reduce the level of TRI emissions.”

DiCristina was one of six allnex employees who volunteered to judge. In total, there were over 200 judges that provided both assessment and feedback to the exhibitors as well as 80 event volunteers. Judges helped to identify 52 award winners that were granted over $8,000 in cash awards.

According to CT STEM Foundation board member Dale Lichtenberg, the organization relies heavily on donations for the continuity of the STEM Fair and support of its winners to advance to the state fair as well as the international fair.

“For the first time this year, we are sponsoring three students to attend the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles,” Lichtenberg said. “allnex’s generosity will help us cover the cost of sending students and chaperones.”

Both sponsors and volunteer judges are key to the success of the annual fair that seeks to foster interest among Connecticut high school students in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math by providing experiences for them to present original research.
