allnex-Wallingford Reduces Its Carbon Footprint By 900 Tons

From allnex- Wallingford: allnex-Wallingford, one of the top consumers of natural gas in the state, as well as the primary user of electricity in Wallingford, has reduced its carbon footprint by 900 tons, the equivalent of planting nearly 4,400 tropical trees. Frank DiCristina, Site Manager at allnex in Wallingford, attributes this notable achievement to the innovative allnex team.

“The staff at the Wallingford site is committed to continuous improvement of energy efficiency,” DiCristina said. “Our efforts are led by a process engineer, who meets monthly with the Energy Team to evaluate and implement ideas in a cost-effective and efficient manner.”

With the United States being the second-largest single consumer of energy in the world, it is critical that organizations regularly evaluate their energy usage for potential reductions so that everyone can be a good steward of the state’s energy resources.

“While saving energy is a common business goal for many organizations, at allnex, we believe it’s simply the right thing to do,” DiCristina said.

These recent energy reductions were due to changes in the procurement and use of the site’s raw materials, product development processes, and daily energy consumption. allnex has an annual goal to reduce energy consumption by two percent and since early 2017, has surpassed that goal by .5 percent.

In the past two years, allnex upgraded their steam trap technology, improved heat recovery systems, and shut off heat in underused buildings. Additionally, with the installation of several high efficiency motors, LED lighting, lighting motion sensors, and shutting off lights in buildings with low occupancy, it has reduced electricity consumption by approximately four percent.
