WALLINGFORD, CT — The Town of Wallingford recently recognized retiring State Rep. Mary Mushinsky for her more than 40 years of service to the town and the State of Connecticut.
Mushinsky, a Democrat, announced in February that she wouldn’t seek re-election to a 24th term in this November’s election.
Wallingford Mayor Vincent Cervoni proclaimed May 23, 2026, as Mary Mushinsky Day in Wallingford.
“Mary Mushinsky has served the people of Wallingford and the State of Connecticut since her first election to the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1980,” the proclamation reads. “Throughout her 46 years of service, she has held key leadership roles, including Assistant Majority Leader, Assistant Majority Whip, Deputy Speaker, and, the latest, Assistant Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore; and as a biologist and co-chair of the Environment Committee, she led landmark environmental legislation on recycling, open-space preservation, endangered species protection, packaging reduction, and one of the nation's earliest statutes referencing climate change.”
In Wallingford, Mushinsky co-founded the Quinnipiac River Linear Trail Advisory Committee “securing major funding to expand the regional pedestrian and bicycle trail, in addition to supporting local initiatives in energy conservation and substance use prevention,” according to the proclamation.
“Her decades of public service have been marked by dedication, integrity, and unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and the prosperity of her community,” the proclamation reads.
