Wallingford Invites Community to Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary
Signature Hometown Events Planned June 18–21
Wallingford, Conn. — The Town of Wallingford invites residents to join a community-wide celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. While festivities will take place throughout the year, the centerpiece of Wallingford’s Semiquincentennial observance will be a four-day hometown celebration June 18–21, bringing history, music, arts, and family fun to the heart of town.
To coordinate this milestone year, the Mayor appointed a volunteer Wallingford 250 Committee comprised of Roz Gallagher, Chair, Bob Beaumont, Alison Cady, Bob Devaney, Jerry Farrell, Shawn Keogh, Tara Knapp, Liz Landow, and Renee Miller, who have been working over the past year to plan meaningful and memorable events. Thanks to the leadership and generosity of local business sponsors, especially lead sponsors BYK USA, United Concrete, and Wallingford Historical Society, many activities will be offered free of charge, ensuring the celebration is welcoming and accessible to all.
The year of celebration began on January 1 with a ceremonial bell ringing at the Wallingford Historical Society’s Parson’s House, symbolically launching both the New Year and the nation’s 250th anniversary. On April 25, Powder House Day commemorated Wallingford’s Revolutionary War legacy with a dramatic reenactment featuring Captain Benedict Arnold and the Second Company Governor’s Foot Guard.
The signature celebration weekend, June 18–21, will showcase the pride and spirit of the Wallingford community. Highlights include a family movie night, patriotic parade from Dutton Park to Prince Street, a Shop, Sip & Stroll supporting local businesses, a classic car show and block dance, and Porchfest-style live music throughout Uptown. Families can enjoy kid-friendly activities, food trucks, and interactive experiences designed for all ages.
The weekend will kick off with a Flag Day program hosted by the Wallingford Elks Lodge #1365, followed by a Juneteenth Enslavement Walking tour, and Red, White & Hue, a community art show presented by the Wallingford Arts & Cultural Alliance at Choate Rosemary Hall.
Additional commemorations later in the summer include a traditional Independence Day gathering at the Wallingford Historical Society and a Liberty Tree dedication ceremony in August.
The Semiquincentennial Committee is excited to honor America’s birthday and Wallingford’s historic role in America’s founding and invites the entire community to come together in celebration, reflection, and hometown pride.
