“The structure sustained heat damage but was spared significant fire damage due to the rapid response of fire crews,” officials wrote in a news release. “Firefighters encountered several operational challenges during the incident, including limited access to a nearby water supply and extremely high temperatures throughout the afternoon.”

Two firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment, according to officials.

No other injuries were reported.

“During the incident, the Meriden Fire Department provided mutual aid by covering the Town of Wallingford to ensure continued emergency response capabilities while Wallingford units remained committed to the scene,” officials wrote.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Wallingford Fire Marshal's Office.
