Colavolpe said the first-responding officer encountered a large gathering on the front lawn.

Witnesses identified 28-year-old Michael Spriggs of Springfield, Massachusetts, as the person responsible for the assault, according to Colavolpe.

Colavolpe said Spriggs was being restrained on the ground by several people at the scene, and the officer took Spriggs into custody without incident.

The investigation found that both Spriggs and the victim were attending a party at the residence, according to Colavolpe.

“According to witnesses, when the victim arrived, Spriggs immediately approached him and began stabbing him in the neck and face with a knife,” Colavolpe wrote in a news release. “Responding officers observed multiple puncture wounds to the victim's neck and facial area. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.”
