The arrest stems from an investigation that started May 21, according to Officer Alex Torres.

Torres said the warrant was issued after the Highland Elementary School PTO reported an estimated $22,000 of its funds could not be accounted for.

“Vitale was the treasurer with full access to the funds and could not provide receipts or bank statements,” Torres wrote in a news release.

Vitale was charged with first-degree larceny and fraudulent use of an automated teller machine. She was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond with a court date of Aug. 4.
