Gaylord Specialty Healthcare has received a $19,600 grant from The Institute for Technology in HealthCare to enhance patient care and support nurses through innovative technology.
The grant will fund four care.ai mobile carts equipped with intelligent sensors that will integrate with Gaylord Hospital's existing technology platform.
The technology will initially support virtual admission interviews, medication histories, and other documentation-intensive tasks, helping streamline clinical workflows while ensuring patients receive thorough, consistent education and information. The platform can also enhance patient safety by alerting care teams when a patient may be at risk of falling, allowing for a faster response.
Chief Nursing Officer Lisa Kalafus, DNP, RN, CENP, stressed that the technology will complement and enhance, not replace, the expert hands-on care Gaylord Hospital nurses provide every day.
"Technology is most valuable when it strengthens the care our clinicians provide," she said.
"Our goal is to improve the patient experience, enhance communication and reduce documentation workload on direct care nurses so they can focus on other important patient care needs and create more meaningful interactions with patients."
Located in Washington, D.C., The Institute for Technology in HealthCare is concerned with the use of technology to benefit health care. For more information about The Institute for Technology in HealthCare, please visit www.ithcawards.org.
