WALLINGFORD, CT — A man is accused of assaulting a security guard with a knife at a movie theater in Wallingford, according to police.

Jaques said initial reports said the suspect tried to flee in a vehicle.

Officers arrived as the suspect's vehicle was leaving the parking lot and stopped it as it traveled east on Barnes Road, according to Jaques.

Jaques said 25-year-old Brayden Drobish of Wallingford was arrested.

"The investigation found that Drobish had been a cinema patron and wanted to return to the theater after smoking a cigarette outside, which was prohibited," Jaques wrote in a news release. "Security staff asked him to leave, but he ignored them and tried to reenter the theater while smoking indoors. When security tried to stop him, an altercation ensued. During the scuffle, Drobish threatened to stab the security officer and then used a pocketknife to try to stab them. A nearby witness took the blade from Drobish, the altercation ended, and Drobish left the cinema. Officers caught up with him as he fled the scene.

"The security officer sustained minor superficial lacerations to the head and was treated at the scene."

Drobish was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, and carrying a dangerous weapon. He was released after posting a $50,000 bond with a court date of Oct. 20.
