WALLINGFORD, CT — The driver of the vehicle that struck an 11-year-old girl on her bicycle and left the scene on Monday has been identified, police said in an update on Wednesday afternoon.
The girl was seriously injured in the hit-and-run crash, which happened around 4:20 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the intersection of Washington Street and Hosford Street.
"The Wallingford Police Department has worked diligently to identify the vehicle since the initial incident," Police Chief John Ventura wrote in a news release. "Using information obtained from multiple surveillance sources at local businesses, officers were able to determine the vehicle's identity."
Officers were conducting motor vehicle enforcement on Oct. 14 in the area of Washington Street and Hosford Street when the suspect vehicle passed them heading northbound on Washington Street, according to Ventura.
"Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop and found the vehicle had damage consistent with the hit-and-run incident," Ventura wrote. "The vehicle was seized and will be processed for evidence. The operator has been identified and is cooperating with the Wallingford Police Department. The investigation is ongoing, and an arrest warrant application for the operator is anticipated.
"I would like to personally thank the Wallingford business community for coming together to provide the Police Department with the information that assisted investigators in identifying the suspect vehicle. The outpouring of support has been greatly appreciated. I would also like to extend our prayers and support to Jaslynn and her family as she begins her road to recovery."
