Appointed to Planning and Zoning

Why are you seeking this office?

I am a lifelong resident of Wallingford, the son of the late State Representative Mary G. Fritz and Bill Fritz, and the proud father of 20-year-old triplets whom I raised here with my wife, Ariana. From an early age, my parents instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility to others and taught me the importance of public service, giving back to your community, keeping your word, and honoring your commitments through action.

I am running for State Representative to bring renewed advocacy, accessibility, and unwavering commitment to the citizens of Wallingford and Middlefield in the 90th District. I believe that our community deserves a representative who truly cares to understand and prioritize the needs - big or small - of all constituents, and puts their needs ahead of party affiliation.

As your State Representative, I will work tirelessly to bring the realities of our communities to Hartford -- fighting to bring state tax dollars home, make healthcare more accessible, invest in our schools and infrastructure, and tackle Connecticut's affordability crisis head-on. Most importantly, I will be a representative who is present, accessible, and committed to delivering for the people I am honored to serve.

What do you believe is the No. 1 issue facing Connecticut, and how do you plan to address it?

Affordability is the most significant issue facing our state. My goal is to make sure the tax dollars that we give to Hartford are returned to our district.

I love my children, and I hope they can get a job that allows them to stay in Connecticut and continue to grow and raise their families in the community they grew up in. Right now, that's not a guarantee.

I want to make sure all of our children have the opportunity to live affordably and stay with their families while raising their own.

We can take steps to limit unnecessary spending while still bringing more money back to Wallingford and Middlefield. We can hold the line on taxes and reduce regulations and fees for small businesses.

I promise my top priority will be fighting for fiscal responsibility that benefits working families — not special interests.

Energy costs have been soaring in Connecticut. What are your plans to help address this issue?

In Wallingford, we're lucky to have independent energy. I will make sure to keep it that way. Part of that is making sure the Wallingford Electric Division can afford competitive salaries and maintain its workforce. I will do everything in my power to make sure that is possible.

For Middlefield and the rest of the state, I'm committed to finding ways to lower distribution rates that inflate energy bills and looking into alternative energy sources such as nuclear and other developing technologies.

Affordability has been a major topic across the country and here in Connecticut. How do you plan to address this issue?

I referenced affordability earlier in my responses. It is the single most common concern I hear when talking to voters. Beyond what I mentioned earlier, I believe we need to take a look at how the state is handling its push to build more affordable housing. Specifically, I believe 8-30g is an antiquated policy that needs to be revisited.

Local governments need to have a stronger say in how and where we build affordable units. Communities cannot be mandated to meet quotas. With better collaboration between local governments and the state, we can address the housing crisis while still protecting local property values, maintaining the character of our community, and finding affordable housing for workers and seniors.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I have a deep understanding of public service.

I saw firsthand from my mother what it means to be a public servant and how to advocate for others over my own personal interests.

As a coach, I learned how to manage a team and encourage people to work together. And as a project manager, I've learned how to stay on schedule, handle a budget, and work efficiently while managing a wide variety of professionals to reach a common goal.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I want voters to know I'm doing this for them. I believe we could be getting more from our state government. For the past ten years, our current representative has not been giving the people of Wallingford and Middlefield the representation they deserve. We need to restore our voice in Hartford.
