The earliest archaeological site in Connecticut extends back 12,500 years ago and represents the initial settlement of Indigenous Peoples in our state. From the end of the Ice Age to the present day, Native Americans have adapted constantly to changing environments and landscapes. State archaeologist emeritus Nick Bellantoni will review Native American cultural changes from the recession of the glaciers to European settlement based on archaeological studies. He will explore the working relationship between archaeologists and Connecticut’s Indigenous community, as well as the evidence found in archaeological sites around the state, including those in Wallingford. Additionally, Nick will bring artifacts such as tools, pottery pieces, and other cultural materials for the audience to see up close.
