Bats of Connecticut

Bats are one of the world’s most beneficial and misunderstood animals. With over 1,300 different species around the world, Connecticut is home to nine of them, eight of which are at risk. Despite saving us billions of dollars every year through pest control and pollination, our bat population has been decimated by disease, changing climate, and light pollution across the country.

Join us as Elizabeth Schumann, Master Wildlife Conservationist with CT DEEP, discusses the ecological value of bats, their migration and hibernation patterns, and recent decline, as well as what steps we can take to help ensure the health and safety of our winged friends. Additionally, in honor of the Halloween festivities, she will share some legends and lore about bats from around the world!
