Distracted DUI Driver Crashes Into Police Cruiser On I-91 In Wallingford: State PD

The state trooper was taken to the hospital after the crash, according to police.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Connecticut State Police trooper was hospitalized after his cruiser was struck by a DUI driver on I-91 North in Wallingford on Friday night, according to police.

State troopers responded around 9:25 p.m. on Dec. 19 to I-91 North near Exit 15 in Wallingford on the report of a crash.

“Trooper Berritto was seated inside his stationary cruiser in the left lane with emergency lights activated to secure the scene,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “While stopped, his State Police cruiser was struck by a Chevrolet Colorado.”

Berritto was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for further evaluation, according to police.

In an update on Monday evening, police identified the driver of the Chevrolet Colorado as 44-year-old Kevin Corso of North Haven. Corso wasn’t injured in the crash, according to police.

Corso was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, following too closely resulting in a motor vehicle accident, failure to move over/reduce speed when approaching emergency vehicle, and distracted driving.

He was released after posting a $10,000 bond with a court date of Jan. 2.

“Reminder: Always SLOW DOWN and MOVE OVER for emergency vehicles when their lights and/or sirens are on!!” police wrote.
