Duchess Restaurant Closes Abruptly In Wallingford

The popular restaurant has closed after more than 35 years in business.

WALLINGFORD, CT — The Duchess restaurant in Wallingford closed abruptly this week after more than 35 years in business.

The property, located at 124 Church St., has been sold, according to a sign posted at the restaurant’s entrances.

“Property has been sold and unfortunately we have had to close our business,” the sign reads. “We thank you for your loyal patronage over the past 36 years.”

Duchess, known for its “fresh food served fast,” has been in business in Connecticut since 1956.

“For over sixty years, Duchess has proven that you do not need to sacrifice quality and freshness when choosing a quick-service restaurant,” reads a post on its website. “While other fast service restaurants offer only pre-cooked food from limited menus, we give our customers their choice of a wide variety of fresh food, cooked when ordered.”

Duchess has 12 remaining locations in Connecticut following the Wallingford closure, according to its website.
